Anyone who is a resident or taxpayer in the participating municipalities may join the library free of charge:
    Town of Virden
    Village of Elkhorn
    R.M. of Wallace
    R.M. of Archie
Simply complete an application form at any branch of the library.
Children must have a parent's signature on their application form.
R.M. of Pipestone residents may now join Border Regional Library, thanks to a new agreement with this municipal council.

    Non-resident members:
Residents of neighbouring municipalities may join the library with the payment of an annual fee of $30.

    Loan Policy

The regular loan period for books is three weeks. However, materials which are in high demand, such as new bestsellers, may be limited to a one-week loan period.

Materials may be renewed a maximum of three times, as long as no reserves have been placed on the item by other patrons. You may phone the library to renew materials, or request a renewal when next you visit your branch.

Materials borrowed from other libraries through inter-library loan may not be renewed unless permission is given by the lending library.

Reserves or holds may be placed on any circulating item at no charge.

    Video Loans

Movies and non-fiction productions are available in VHS and DVD formats in each branch. Public Library Services provides a group loan of videos to each branch on a regular basis, providing fresh material for your entertainment.

The loan period for videos is one week.

In the Virden branch, a deposit of $2.00 per video is required. This is returned to you if the videos are returned within the loan period. It is not returned if the video is late.

    Overdue Fines

If you have kept your library materials longer than the loan period, we would appreciate a donation in support of the library.

The fine for overdue videos is $2 per day.

    Returning Materials

Books may be returned in the book drops at each library. Virden has an exterior metal book return box. Elkhorn and McAuley have return slots in their entry vestibules.

Please do not return videos in Virden's outside book box. They can be damaged by the cold, or by heavy books falling on them. Videos should be returned to the main desk during regular library hours.

    Lost or Damaged Materials

A repair charge will be levied on the borrower for books wilfully or accidently damaged as a result of improper use or carelessness.

Borrowers are liable up to the replacement cost of any books not returned for any reason. The borrower's signature on the membership card validates a credit agreement between the borrower and the library, whereby, in the event that library books, videos or audiocassettes are not returned, a value equivalent to the replacement value of the books, videos or audiocassettes shall be paid in cash or by donation of books approved by the librarian.

Borrowers who violate this credit agreement may have theft charges laid against them and/or have their borrower's privileges revoked.
